I am profoundly affected by my environment – always have been. If it is rainy and gloomy for days at a time, I become gloomy too. When it’s bright and sunshiny out, I feel sunshiny too. Autumn on the east coast is probably my favorite time of year. There’s something so amazing about seeing the riot of color, the blaze of the leaves in defiance of impending death. There’s something different about the sunsets too……it’s like God, the Master Painter, is busy creating temporary works of art.
As affected as I am by my environment, I am not a nature photographer. I see and am affected by the beauty around me, but I am generally not moved to pick up my camera (I don’t know why). I am more compelled to capture people, not things. But a couple of days ago, I was in my kitchen, cleaning up after dinner, when I looked out the window and saw this:
My hands started shaking and I RAN to get my camera. I knew I had to get the shot NOW before it went away. This sunset only lasted for a very few minutes before it was gone, but it was enough.
